Several visits this season confirm that all the things we liked about the Bamboo Café when it opened two years ago: the friendly and attentive staff, the modern yet warm decor, the delicious Provençal/Moroccan cuisine, and the reasonable prices (for downtown Naples) are still very much in evidence. In addition, the service is now as efficient as it is friendly and the kitchen is better than ever. Monthly movie-themed dinners let the chef demonstrate his skill with “haute” as well as “home-style” cooking. The energetic proprietors, Philippe and Lisa Boet, provide a warm welcome and a caring presence during the meal.
New is the adjoining French deli, Le Comptoir des Gourmets, where chef Jean Paset prepares a variety of classic French dishes such as cassoulet and boeuf Bourguignon to take out, or soups, pates and Parisian-style sandwiches to eat in. Wines, cheeses, smoked fish and unique French giftware are also available. Le Comptoir is open Monday through Saturday.
Menu Highlights: Green bean and lobster salad, Chicken livers with caramelized onions and mushrooms, Salmon carpaccio, Provençal fish soup, Lamb, chicken and seafood tangines, Mediterranean shrimp, Boeuf Bourguignon, Roasted duck (try extra crispy), Napoleon with fresh berries, Crème Brûlée, Tarte Tatin. Full bar with a medium-priced French/American wine list.
